Minneapolis and the Justice for George Floyd Movement Calls Us to the Streets Again!
Only the strength shown during the George Floyd Movement can stop Donald Trump’s twisted dream of a fascist police state in America. On Wednesday, January 7th, a day after the five-year anniversary of Trump’s racist mob’s failed attempt to carry out a coup at the U.S. Capitol to overturn his defeat in the presidential elections, Jonathan Ross and other members of Trump’s ICE gestapo murdered a Minneapolis woman, Renee Nicole Good, in cold-blood. The ICE thugs went on to assault high-school students and teachers on school grounds nearby, and shot and injured two more people in Portland, Oregon later that night.
Although ICE thugs pulled the trigger, this was a Donald Trump murder. He is the person responsible for this murder, just as he is responsible for all the brutal acts committed by his fascist thugs against immigrants and the American people since his inauguration. ICE knows that, as long as Trump and his fascist government are in power, they can murder, brutalize, torture, and kidnap people with impunity because Trump is constituting this nation as a police state.
Democratic Governor and former vice-presidential candidate Tim Walz is eager to keep this case in Minnesota courts in order to build illusions in the legal system and stifle the movement from winning justice in the streets and forcing the removal of Donald Trump. Most likely, the federal government will demand the case be handled by the FBI or in a federal court, so that, regardless of the outcome, Trump would give a presidential pardon. The real issue is not whether the state or federal officials handle the investigation; only the movement’s power can get at the truth and win justice. Trump is acting through these thugs to enforce his policies, his schemes, his own twisted fantasy. Our movement cannot waste any moral appeals for justice to a corrupted and broken judicial system bending over backwards for Trump. Now, more than ever, the movement to stop Trump’s fascist attacks must mobilize in the streets and stay in the streets.
Trump is using ICE against the American people to terrorize our communities and push back on the strength of our movement in the streets. The ICE thug who pulled the trigger was a ten-year veteran, Jonathon Ross; this was no slip-up or accident, but an emboldened pre-meditated fascist murder. ICE has been forced out and defeated in their raid operations in Los Angeles, Oakland, Chicago, Charlotte, New York, and Minneapolis, by courageous groups of youth, workers, and community members standing up together to confront armed ICE thugs. ICE’s message is clear: we will shoot to kill. But our message is clear, too: go after one of us, you’ll have to get through all of us. In order to prevent further fascist attacks, we must reignite and spread the fiery spirit of Minneapolis and L.A. all over the nation.
Worker Strike Action to Remove Trump and Defeat Fascism
In order for Trump to pursue imperialist war against Venezuela or Iran, he has to establish a police state to enforce fascism domestically. Workers across the world are taking strike action to stand up to fascism. In Italy, dockworkers and logistics workers shut down the nation to end arms shipments to Israel and stop the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza. They worked in collaboration with dockworkers in Morocco, France, Germany, the Netherlands, and other countries and successfully stopped the arms shipments from taking place. Dockworkers in the US have tremendous power to end US arms shipments to Israel and bring down fascism abroad and here at home. In California, public school teachers are poised to strike in 14 different school districts. Coordinated strike action of public school educators, fighting not only for wages and healthcare benefits but also to defend public education and democracy, would be historic, and would inspire healthcare workers and public service workers to strike across the state and the nation to save public education, public services, and healthcare from Trump’s brutal attacks. Worker strike action can escalate our fight to REMOVE TRUMP BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY.
Our Independent Movement, Not the Democratic Party, Can Defeat Trump’s Police State and Remove Trump and His Fascist Government
The Democratic Party has shown itself to be weak, incapable of standing up to Trump, and in many cases aligned with him and ready to do his dirty work. Minnesota’s Democrat Governor Tim Walz called the state National Guard to stand ready to act against the people of Minneapolis before Trump could do so. This cowardly and treasonous behavior is because the Democratic Party is more afraid of revolution than they are of a fascist police state. The paralyzing and defeatist “see no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” tactic of the Democratic Party to confront Trump cannot paralyze the superior strength of our movement, and we must act now. Any organization or individual building up the movement’s illusions in the midterm elections with the useless hope that the Democratic Party taking back the House or the Senate will stand up to Trump, which they show no interest in, is betraying the movement and ensuring Trump’s vision for a fascist America. If there is an important lesson from American history that we should always remember, it is that it has always been the mass democratic power of the people of this nation fighting in the streets, not this nation’s judicial or governmental institutions, that have won us justice. Trump and his fascist movement cannot be defeated at the ballot box; it must be defeated in the streets.
Emergency protests are taking place in all major US cities and show that our movement is prepared to fight. It was the leadership of Minneapolis that built the movement for George Floyd which defeated Trump in his first term and is our model for how to defeat him today. Our resistance to ICE and federal troops already has prevented Trump from carrying out the mass deportations he had promised, and he has had to back down from many of his threats. We must continue to build our movement and stay in the streets until ICE is shut down everywhere for good, until Donald Trump is removed from office, and his fascist movement is thoroughly defeated.
The best way to win justice for Renee Good and all victims of fascist killings under Trump is to get rid of Donald Trump once and for all. In the spirit of Minneapolis and the Movement for Justice for George Floyd, it’s time to fight hard and without fear!
