BAMN is committed to defeating Donald Trump and his fascist movement by any means necessary. This moment in history calls for bold leaders who are prepared to stand on the truth and lead in action. BAMN exists to develop the conscious political method needed to turn our struggles into fights that CAN WIN, learning both from the successes and mistakes of our own struggles, and from the most successful leaders of mass movements like Martin Luther King and Frederick Douglass.
We must build an integrated, youth-led, mass, militant new civil rights and immigrant rights movement. Our movement can have much greater power than Trump’s fascist movement, but we must unite the struggles against racism, to stop deportations, for full citizenship rights for immigrants with and without papers, for freedom of speech and defense of democracy, for LGBT+ equality, for women’s equality, for victory to the Palestinian struggle, and to solve the climate crisis, together with a revitalized militant labor movement. Our movement is integrated and international, and we are fighting for fundamental equality and freedom for all of humanity, for a new kind of society. We are fighting to put the oppressed in power.
“… And so, to all those who are oppressed, I say as a proud young leader of the growing new, integrated, independent, youth-led civil rights/immigrant rights movement: Your struggle for freedom is my struggle for freedom. Your dreams and hopes echo in my heart and mind. The borders that separate us will not divide us. We will win as one. We have the power to make this world into the world we want to live in. We can, if we act, create a new society in which the needs of humanity come before the enrichment of a few and for the first time in human history, human beings can finally think, love and socialize as equals while protecting and realizing the great potential of both human beings and all that inhabit this earth.”

What We Stand For
The BAMN Pledge

“I pledge to accept the challenge of becoming my generation’s voice of freedom. I know this requires always speaking for and to the oppressed, telling the truth about racism and inequality and expressing both the anger and the aspirations of our communities. I reject the popular, wrong, and dominant ideology of most of those who claim to support progressive reforms, that the only people who have the power to make and change history are the rich and powerful. Changing the actions/attitudes of the rich and powerful and their political representatives requires asserting through mass action the superior power and will of the masses. This is the only road to victory.”
BAMN Principles

“BAMN is a mass, democratic, integrated, national organization dedicated to building a new mass civil rights movement to defend affirmative action, integration, and the other gains of the civil rights movement of the 1960s and to advance the struggle for equality in American society by any means necessary”
Youth Declaration for a New Civil Rights Movement

“Children and youth are the most vulnerable victims of poverty, inequality, and discrimination. Teenagers and older youth are the main victims of police profiling, harassment, and brutality. Youth fighting for their rights in schools will also become leaders of struggles for justice in their communities.”

Other statements presenting BAMN’s basic positions and methods of action on various struggles:
- “An American Catastrophe: Fascism Comes to America” (11/21/2024): “In the US presidential election of fall 2024, the American people found themselves faced with two unacceptable electoral options: two parties, each committed in different ways to policies abhorrent to the democratic, humane, and progressive principles most Americans have believed in since they were children. The two parties, the Republicans and the Democrats, presented, in effect, two different aspects of the American government of a movement toward fascism.”
- “Yearning to Breathe Free: BAMN Declaration on Immigrant Rights” (5/26/2006): “To be an American is to live and learn and work here, to contribute to the development of the nation’s economy and society, to contribute the best of one’s own linguistic and cultural legacy to its diverse culture, and to be committed to the American project of making real certain principles of liberty and equality on this national territory. By this rational standard, the great majority of the millions of “illegal aliens” are already contributing members of our national community and should have that reality recognized in the law by being afforded the right to become citizens now.”
- “Stop ICE Terror: Build Community Defense Guards to Stop, Block, and Drive ICE Out” (8/6/2019): “Over the past two years, the immigrant rights and anti-Trump resistance has shown us glimpses of our own power and how we can defeat Trump and ICE. Every deportation that has been prevented or stopped in progress, every racist, tyrannical executive order we have halted or rendered unenforceable, are the result of heroic actions of people, trusting their own political instincts, acting on what they know to be true and right, ignoring the politicians’ bad advice calling for moderation, patience and respectability. Stories of these acts of courage have spread like wildfire as a beacon of hope and inspiration to everyone searching for actions they can take to combat the constant barrage of horrors of the Trump presidency.”
- “Victory to the Palestinian Struggle” (10/15/2023): ““The alarm bells are ringing louder and the warning lights are flashing. War criminals are on the loose and committing genocide in Gaza. An unstable world has become even more dangerous – the result of the cynical, racist divide-and-conquer policies that American and the Western imperialists played historically to divide and dominate the Middle East and the Arab world…”
- “Defend Gay and Trans Youth with Mass Pride and Mass Action” (3/29/2022): “We must recognize that we are, in fact, defeating these anti-LGBT+ laws by not being ashamed of who we are and taking the bold actions we have taken with our high-school walkouts. As long as we continue our mass actions, standing up for ourselves and each other, refusing to go back into the closet, and refusing to be silenced, we can render these bigoted laws unenforceable.”
- “Hands Off Our Encampments!” (5/15/2024): “Our movement is on the rise, in strength, boldness, and in consciousness. The increased repression of campus struggles by University administrations, who have relied on police brutality, coordinated attacks by far right and fascist pro‐Trump and pro‐Netanyahu thugs, and threats of severe reprisals to suppress any pro‐Palestinian speech and to crush campus‐based, youth‐led, independent mass anti‐war actions, are not winning. In fact, the actions of the Columbia University President to militarize her own campus and oversee the police beatings and arrests of her own students backfired…”
- “Program of Action for the New Civil Rights Movement” (6/8/2020): “It has become clear this movement, in fighting for justice for George Floyd, is fighting for justice for all victims of racist police murder, and even more: the vision of an America truly based on equal rights for all…. Black and brown unity must be the leading, driving force of the movement—the fight against racism and the defense of immigrant rights are the most powerful and dynamic forces in the country and we face the same enemy—Donald Trump and his minions in different branches of government enforced through racist repression by police and ICE.”
- “By Any Means Necessary” (November 1998) “The question of equality for minorities and women is central to the character and direction of our society as a whole. No government, no court, no authority, and no popular vote has the right to relegate minorities and women to second-class citizenship—not before the Civil War, not in the 1950’s and 60’s and not now.”
- “Theses on the Climate Crisis” (12/25/2021): A draft perspective to build the mass environmentalist movement to shut down oil, gas, and coal. “This perspective is not addressed to the fossil fuel corporations, nor to the politicians, who have failed to protect humankind against the climate crisis. To solve the crisis, it is necessary for today’s environmentalist movement to assert itself in a bold and new direction…”
- “Defeat COVID-19 and shut down schools in favor of remote learning” (1/18/2022): “There is only one main reason why US leaders have allowed the virus to spread so relentlessly: to keep the economy booming. Forcing students back to school is the only way of forcing parents back to work… For the sake of boosting the profits of billionaires, US politicians have decided to sacrifice the lives of hundreds of thousands of people… Our lives are not for sale.”
- “Defend Women’s Right to Abortion By Any Means Necessary” (10/3/2021): “Thankfully, we have a model that can show us how to win. In the summer of 1992, an organization of far-right wing fanatics, Operation Rescue (OR), announced that they would be making a national tour. They wanted to show that they could shut down all the abortion clinics in various cities in the nation. They met their match in the determined leadership of the National Women’s Rights Organizing Coalition (NWROC), an integrated organization of young women and men who defended abortion rights by any means necessary – and won.”
- “Bring Down the Hammer: Strike to Win! Open letter to UAW workers” (10/11/2023): “Everyone knows that the current policy of only striking at some plants and facilities will fail to win our demands. Every UAW plant needs to be out now. We need every UAW member to raise Cain with their local officers and start fighting to go all out now.”
- “The Obama Era – Renewal of King’s Dream or a New Jim Crow? BAMN’s Call for Real Hope” (5/24/2008): “For BAMN, an organization dedicated to rebuilding the struggle for equality, it is crucial to appreciate the full meaning of this moment in American history. We must understand the depth of the importance of the likely election of Barack Obama as president, but we must also understand the limitations of the importance of this election and the dangers of overestimating what this election alone can actually accomplish… [T]he ways in which Barack Obama has conducted his campaign bring out sharply the differences between the methods of modern American electoralism and the methods necessary to rebuild a mass movement for equality and social justice.”
BAMN featured in HBO’s “Eyes on the Prize”
HBO’s “Eyes on the Prize III” highlights BAMN’s pivotal role defending affirmative action in the historic Grutter v. Bollinger University of Michigan Law School case, making the most compelling legal case in the courtroom and mobilizing 75,000 young people to march in Washington, D.C. April 1, 2003 on the day the Supreme Court heard oral arguments. This forced the Republican-dominated Supreme Court to uphold affirmative action. BAMN’s fight to stop the resegregation of higher education and defend the promise of Brown v. Board of Education continues to this day.
