"Operation King's Dream"

        Stop the anti-affirmative action
        ballot initiative in Michigan!
 
Operation King's Dream is a civil rights campaign launched by Michigan BAMN for the purpose of defeating the right-wing's attack aimed at nullifying last summer's U.S. Supreme Court victory for affirmative action in the University of Michigan Law School case, Grutter v. Bollinger.

Operation King's Dream will consist of a diverse set of tactics designed both to confront a racist and sexist attack that aims to outlaw all affirmative action in Michigan and to highlight the segregation and inequality that still permeates the education system and the job market in our state.

2003-2004

Operation King's Dream consists of:

Civil rights pickets and consumer boycotts of the businesses of the 19 Republican state representatives who are sponsoring this attack.

Canvassing in the districts of these dirty 19 Republican state representatives; letting voters in their area know that their state rep is fighting to increase inequality and segregation for women and minorities. If it succeeds, this attack would also make higher education even more elite than it is now, further narrowing opportunities for poor and rural white students as well as.

Civil rights pickets and protests at the speaking engagements of the leaders of this attack.

Shadowing the signature gatherers for the racist campaign. Using our First Amendment right to vociferously dissuade people considering signing on to this racist, sexist attack.

Energetically supporting the lawsuit challenging the legality of the current petition being circulated by the racists.

Boycotting Coors beer, a funder of Ward Connerly and his personal crusade against the gains of the Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 1960s.

Petitioning to remove Ward Connerly as University of California regent.

  Spread the boycott of the businesses of any state politicians who support the anti-affirmative action attack

  Raise public awareness by posting flyers or doing door-to-door canvassing in their districts and at area schools.

  Invite BAMN student organizers to make a presentation on defeating the racist initiative at your next meeting at your organization, church, union local, etc.

  Call, fax and email their offices - tell them what you think of these state representatives' racist attempt to create an even more segregated, more unequal Michigan
