================================================================ THE SEVENTH NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF THE NEW CIVIL RIGHTS MOVEMENT NOVEMBER 7-9, 2003 AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN, ANN ARBOR ================================================================ CONFERENCE AGENDA BELOW * Why the defense of Grutter v. Bollinger is essential now in order to realize the promise of Brown v. Board of Education: * How we can defeat the right-wing attack on civil rights through building the new civil rights movement. The Seventh National Conference of the New Civil Rights Movement comes at a critical juncture in the fight for equality and integration in America. The new civil rights movement is awakening more and more people to the fact of the racist segregation and inequality permeating our society and its education system. At the same time our movement is teaching people through their own experience that when you organize and you fight, you can win. Progress comes through struggle-mass action is the key. We will be discussing and voting on a perspective for the defense of our US. Supreme Court victory in Grutter v. Bollinger. That defense is now the key to advancing the fight to realize the promise of Brown v. Board of Education - full integration and equality in American education. We need organizers to step forward as leaders across the country. This conference will be a powerful opportunity to connect with other civil rights organizers and freedom riders from around the country. We will begin planning for a mass civil rights march on Washington, DC to mark the 50-year anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education with the demand that the promise of Brown be realized - NOW. * For more information and to register online: www.bamn.com/november7 * Driving directions to U of M Central Campus: http://www.umich.edu/~info/tocentral.html * Map of U of M Central Campus: http://www.umich.edu/~info/central.html ========================= FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 7, 2003 ========================= 8:30-9:30AM Registration and Welcome [Location: Rackham Auditorium] 9:30-11:20AM Plenary Session: Marching for Freedom- Building the New Civil Rights Movement to Realize the Promise of Brown.
