SAN MARCOS AREA
March 23, 2007

Students from four high schools in the San Marcos (CA) area led the very first set of walkouts for 2007. See More The students in the area don't have school on the 30th this year so they decided to march a week early--with only a few days to prepare--to stop the raids, to gain full rights and dignity for Latinos in this nation, and to honor the Cesar Chavez holiday in California!

They walked out of their schools despite threats from administrators and police. These determined leaders walked for SEVEN HOURS across city lines in the hot Southern California sun! Their chants were spirited and the support they received was huge-- for seven hours countless cars and semi-trucks honked their horns in support. Reporters from major newspapers in the area came to cover the event. Workers, drivers, and passengers pumped their fists to show their pride and solidarity with the courageous stand the students took today.

The leadership of the San Marcos area students today is an indication of the strength of future action.  Their hard work and initiative is an inspiration and we look forward to seeing many of them as they join us in Los Angeles for the March 30th Cesar Chavez Day of Action!

CONGRATULATIONS ON A SUCCESSFUL DAY!
